Memorandum of Agreemennt (MoA) between the Pasay City Government and Philtranco Establishing the Partnership to Help End Tuberculosis

Thanks to a new partnership between Pasay City local government and Philtranco Service Enterprise, Inc., about 6,000 bus passengers and bus company employees are poised to receive correct information on tuberculosis (TB) each day. Local Government officials and Philtranco executives signed a memorandum of agreement on August 30, 2016, to disseminate correct TB information among the bus line’s passengers and employees. The partnership strengthens the role of Pasay City, a USAID project site, in providing information to bus drivers, conductors, and office personnel on TB prevention, treatment and control; and facilitating, through the City Health Office, diagnosis of company employees with TB symptoms and providing treatment as needed. Philtranco and its sister companies will show TB videos and distribute print materials in terminals and in its buses that ply routes to 25 provinces nationwide. The TB information materials developed by the Department of Health and USAID are expected to reach an estimated 3,500 passengers and 1,000 people who pass through the terminal each day, and the 1,500 employees of Philtranco and its sister bus companies. These people will then share this information with their friends, officemates, and family members, thus boosting the campaign to eradicate TB in the country. Forged through USAID’s Innovations and Multisectoral Partnerships to Achieve Control of Tuberculosis project with the Philippine Business for Social Progress, the collaboration between Pasay City and Philtranco supports the End TB Strategy which calls for effective government stewardship and the involvement of the private sector and communities. TB remains the 8th leading cause of death in the country, killing 27 persons every day.

SOMETHING WHITE AND CRISPY

SOMETHING WHITE AND CRISPY

What is something white and crispy? A: Chicharong Puti? No, it is sweet. A: Meringue? Try again… A: Popcorn? Never mind…We’ll tell you: It’s White Chocolate Crispies If you enjoy Chocolate Crunch, then you will also love this sweet treat…and surprise surprise—it is really easy to do. It is actually a form of chocolate candy. And did you know that not all chocolates are brown? Meron ding white chocolate, and other colors using food color. But for a change, instead of the usual dark brown chocolate – try using white chocolate to make this cute candy…tamang-tama para sa coming Valentine’s Day or …just change the design and you have a specialty that you can label, call your own, sell or give away… It is really easy to do. All you need are available at baking supplies and if you choose your favorite mold or shape, you can start making White Chocolate Crispies to your heart’s content. Here’s how: WHITE CHOCOLATE CRISPIES For every kilo of white chocolate, you will need: About ½ C (or more) shortening or butter or milk, but the best choice is shortening (and to keep the white color of the chocolate, the shortening should also be white.) 500 gms or ½ K Rice Crispies Equipment: A pot A bowl that will fit over the pot without touching the bottom of the pot Or…a microwave Microwave Method: 1. Chop up the white chocolate into chunks 2. To microwave: place in microwave-proof bowl and add some shortening (about 1-2 teaspoons for 1 C chocolate) 3. Melt on medium power at 15 second intervals 4. Stir after every interval. 5. Cool slightly and mix with crispies 6. Pour into a greased mold and freeze. 7. When hardened, release from mold. Double Boiler Method: This method is better and can give more consistent quality. Take note : white chocolate melts and can burn quicker than dark chocolate . Do not let vapor, steam or water touch the chocolates — if you do, maninigas yung chocolate and you can’t use it anymore. Kagalit ng melting chocolate ang tubig!!! 1. Get a pot and half fill with water and boil. 2. Put a bowl over pot – make sure the bottom of the bowl does not touch the boiling water. 3. Put the chunks for white chocolate with some shortening . 4. The heat of the boiling water underneath will melt it slowly. 5. Cool slightly then add the crispies. 6. Pour into greased mold and freeze. 7. When hardened, release from mold. Try to do this. If at first you can’t melt the white chocolate properly, try again…it takes a little practice. Konting tiyaga lang, mga foodies! Pag na-master niyo ang paggawa ng White Chocolate Crispies – you can already start a business…oh di ba?!! Galing galing naman!!!!

PHILTRANCO_LADIES 2

Wanted : Lady Bus Captains (Drivers) for Philtranco

Fasten your seatbelts, top bus company Philtranco has announced that they are pursuing more female bus captains (drivers) for the firm’s brand-new additions to its fleet. 50 new state-of-the-art Daewoo and Nissan buses were recently acquired to boost Philtranco’s line.

The firm has also rolled out a new look for its buses, featuring flag colors on the exterior and elegant navy with gray trims for the bus interiors. The new buses also come with a TV screen and on-board WIFI service.

Furthermore, a recent study by Quality Planning, which reviewed car accident insurance policies, revealed that women are 3 times less likely to be involved in a “reckless driving” incident, that implies disregard for safety as well as passenger and property rights.

Only half as many women are also likely to be involved in accidents as a result of speeding, and to be cited for other violations such as failure to follow stop lights or yield at intersections. As a rule of thumb, women are less aggressive and prone to take chances, including making risky decisions and breaking traffic rules and regulations.

Qualified female applicants may send in their bio-data to Philtranco Human Resources, addressed to Miss Rosalinda B. Roxas at Tel 851-8081 or text 0917-8835734 or email to lisabr2006@yahoo.com. Philtranco, which is set to celebrate its 100th year of serving the Filipino bus passenger, operates six major passenger terminals in Cubao, Pasay, Daet, Iriga, Tacloban and Davao. The company is the Philippines’ first-ever bus company and was also the very first bus operator in Asia. Philtranco also seeks to recognize the growing role of women on the streets of the Philippines and empower the highly skilled female working population. At present, the firm has three female bus captains and aims to recruit even more.

The move to recruit more lady bus captains is just one initiative Philtranco has introduced as part of it commitment to deliver a total passenger experience that is “Byaheng Masaya, Serbisyong Subok Na.”

Philtranco Looks Forward to Next 100 Years of Service

Philtranco, established in 1914 by two Americans, Albert Louis Ammen and Max Blouse who together formed Al Ammen Transport Company or ALATCO, this year marks its 100th year of serving the Filipino bus passenger.

The company is the first bus operator in the Philippines - as well as in Asia, reflecting an era when the country was the most advanced in the region.

It is, without doubt, one of the country’s most recognizable - and loved - heritage brands, fully committed to providing each traveller its company vision of “Byaheng Masaya, Serbisyong Subok Na.”

In the Seventies, the company likewise pioneered service to the Eastern Visayas and by the early Eighties had also expanded into ferry operations. By 1986, it had unveiled the country’s first-ever archipelago-wide transport network, that connected Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. At the time, cargo truck and air-conditioned bus service were also added as enhancements to its routes. It owns or operates six major passenger terminals in Cubao, Pasay, Daet, Iriga, Tacloban and Davao. In the last quarter of 2013, Philtranco was taken over by new management.

Today, a hundred years since it rolled out its first bus, Philtranco continues to service the Southern Tagalog , Bicol, Eastern Visayas, and Mindanao regions through a growing fleet of 250 buses.

Philtranco, A unique experience

To secure excellent customer service and competency, we are conducting a regular comprehensive seminar among our drivers and conductors that focuses on improving passenger service, accurate ticketing and emergency preparedness. This weekly seminar with the theme, “Philtranco, A unique experience” was facilitated by Philtranco trainors, Ms. Abegail Cecilia Verdanio and Ms. Lisa Roxas. The most recent activity was held last January 15, 2014.
